From blur Trading, to desktop-killing…it’s blur Group’s weekly blog recap

15/4/2011 | blur Group | Paul | No Comments

Weekly RecapSo here we are, another Friday and another chance for all you good people to catch up on what’s been happening across blur Group’s network of blogs this week.

There has been no shortage of chat, discussion and debate, and as usual we’ve tried to bring some unique insights into a wealth of topics from across the digital, social, creative and business worlds.

This week’s Innovatrs focus was on all things cloud, and Monday pondered whether or not cloud computing is still a spotty teen, or whether it has reached maturity yet. As the week progressed, we looked at how cloud computing is being used as virtual storage for music producers and how Google is killing the desktop.

Moving on, with all this chat about digital, one might assume that print advertising has finally met its match. But BP has shown that there’s life in the old dog yet, by taking out a series of print ads to try and win back its reputation. That said, digital is pretty popular, so we pulled together a guide on how to design profile pages for Twitter, as well as a compendium of some of the best Twitter profile page designs out there.

There was big news here at blur Group this week. We unveiled our creative services trading platform to the world, something that really is breaking the ground upon which the traditional agencies sit. And in a week that saw the ‘revelation’ that almost a third of all companies are looking to bring their creative services in-house, the Creative Services Exchange offers businesses a genuine alternative to the outsourcing/in-house quandary.

In the design and marketing spheres, we hit upon a few nuggets too. There’s a strong argument that says TV advertisers should annoy their viewers, and marketers should never mention their competitors by name…even though many do exactly that.

We also think we hit on a major flaw in the freemium business model, one highlighted by Spotify’s decision to halve the listening allowance of its free accounts.

And a final thought for the week…ever wonder what Robbie Williams will get up to once he hangs up his performing hat for good? It seems he’s a bit of a painter at heart, so we wrote all about it over at b-uncut.

Same time, same place next week. And remember, if you’re looking for any kind of creative work, whether it’s web design, video production, app development, logo design…you name it, simply submit a brief, and we’ll take care of it. Have a good weekend!
