It seems that every day there’s more attention focused on the Creative Services Exchange. And today, in further recognition of the impact that the Exchange has made on the world of design, blur Group’s Founder and CEO, Philip Letts has been named a finalist for a prestigious World Technology Award for Design, presented by the WTN in association with TIME, Fortune, CNN, Science/AAAS, and Technology Review.

Philip’s nomination recognises the development of the world’s first Creative Services Exchange as he joins a roster of organizations and individuals from over 60 countries deemed to be doing the most innovative and impactful work.

These awards have been presented by the World Technology Network since 2000 as a way to honor those in 20 different categories of science and technology and related fields doing “the innovative work of the greatest likely long-term significance.” Categories include the Arts, Policy, Medicine, Marketing and previous finalists and winners represent the who’s who of leading figures in their fields – people like Walt Mossberg in journalism, Issy Miyake in design, Craig Newmark the founder of Craigslist, Jonathan Ive of Apple and nominees for the 2011 World Technology Awards were selected through an intense process by the WTN Fellows made up of these former finalists and winners.

For Philip Letts, whose vision for blur Group started with the idea of bringing the open source movement to creative services, before the concept of Crowdsourcing had been formulated, it’s a humbling accolade. As he put it “I am very excited and humbled to be nominated for the Design category at the World Technology Awards.  It is a great honor to have been considered for this award by industry leaders as it demonstrates the dramatic impact that the Creative Services Exchange has had on the creative industry.”

With the founder and Chairman of the World Technology Network, James P. Clark, saying that “This year we are more eager than ever to pay tribute to the talent and innovation of our individual and corporate honorees. Through the peer-nomination and peer-review process, we uncover the best of the best of the best in science and technology. We discover whose work is going to have the greatest likely impact over time” it really establishes blur Group and Philip in particular as achieving this vision.

Winners will be selected from among the finalists with the input of a select group of prominent Advisors including Lev Grossman from Time, Jason Pontin from Technology Review and will be announced in a ceremony at the United Nations on the evening of October 26th at the close of the World Technology Summit, a two-day “thought leadership” conference held at the TIME & LIFE Building.

The WTN exists to “encourage serendipity” — the happy accidents of colliding ideas and new relationships that cause the biggest breakthroughs for individuals and institutions. Briefing the Exchange may be your serendipitous moment so why not try now?
