40% of entrepreneurs are developing ‘knowledge-as-a-service’ businesses

A digital economy demands new ways of doing business, and consultants to steer existing business practices into the online sphere.  A recent study by blur Group found that “digital natives” are spearheading the ‘knowledge-as-a-service’ movement, developing new businesses and helping ‘older’ models adapt.

Entrepreneurs are rapidly adopting sourcing as a method to jump-start their projects, according to a recent study by blur Group the world’s largest Creative Services Exchange. blur Group surveyed 1,546 members of Innovatrs, an Innovation Exchange™  where corporations worldwide can discover, partner with or invest in some of the most innovative young startups and entrepreneurs globally.  The research findings show that nearly 40% of entrepreneurs are developing ‘knowledge-as-service’ business models.

The research found three key trends:

1.  40% of entrepreneurs are developing ‘knowledge-as-a-service’ business practices.

2.  ”Digital natives” are more entrepreneurial than any other age group.  Nearly one quarter are under the age of 30 and the majority of entrepreneurs are under 40.

3. Nearly one quarter of business models are innovations in the creative services industry.

The trend towards using Exchanges such as Innovatrs as a social platform to connect with funding and like-minded people has proven to be effective in getting projects off the ground.

The research found that the most prominent sector is ‘knowledge-as-a-service’ (34%).  Other business areas include biotechnology (2%), mobile (4%), manufacturing (7%), green technology (10%), web/internet (12%), other technology (13%), and creative services (18%).

Based on data from 1,546 entrepreneurs from 130 countries around the world, the report states that nearly 40% of entrepreneurs are involved in innovations in the ‘knowledge-as-a-service’ industry.  This trend indicates that entrepreneurs are developing alternative methods to streamline existing business strategies, and are rapidly adapting to a digital economy.

However, the most striking finding is the generation split in innovation.  Nearly one quarter of entrepreneurs belong to the “digital natives” generation, and the majority are under the age of 40 (60%).
